The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), working jointly with the US-led international coalition, captured two ISIS members in the countryside close to Al Hasakah (Hesekê) in northern Syria, according to the SDF press department’s website.
The two fighters were apprehended on 8 September, during simultaneous operations by SDF and coalition forces.
An operation in Al-Arisha targeted Muhammed Muhammed, an ISIS member from Deir ez-Zor (Dêrezor), while a second operation captured Hussein Musa from the village of Abyad.
SDF media released a photograph of weapons and ammunition confiscated in the two raids.
The capture was the result of a surveillance operation on movements of ISIS members from the Turkish-controlled areas of North and East Syria. These Turkish-occupied regions reportedly act as a safe haven for those planning attacks against areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). SDF media warned of a particular threat that these ISIS members may carry out motorcycle bombings in Al-Hasakah.
“Turkish-occupied areas serve as safe havens for ISIS operatives and leaders. Several high-ranking ISIS members have been killed in these areas,” the SDF said.
“Our SDF forces reaffirm their commitment to maintaining security in the North and East Syria region. We will continue our security operations against ISIS and any other groups that threaten our region’s stability,” SDF media concluded.
