The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Manbij Military Council successfully repelled a series of coordinated attacks by Turkish mercenaries on villages south and east of Manbij (Minbîc) on 25 December. The clashes, marked by heavy artillery fire and airstrikes from Turkish forces, resulted in significant losses for the attackers.
According to SDF Media Center reports, the engagement near Abu Qalqal, southeast of Manbij, and along the northern countryside of the Tishreen Dam led to the elimination of 14 Turkish-backed mercenaries, with dozens wounded. In addition to the personnel losses, two armoured vehicles, two vehicles mounted with DShK machine guns, and two motorcycles were destroyed. Farhad Shami, head of the SDF Media Center, said in a statement:
“The Turkish-backed mercenaries launched a fierce assault, but our forces held their ground, forcing the attackers to retreat. Our forces’ ability to counter these attacks demonstrates their resilience and tactical expertise.”
Heavy artillery and Turkish UCAV strikes targeted the areas surrounding the Tishreen Dam, reportedly causing damage to the structure and escalating concerns over Turkey’s aggressive military operations in northern Syria.
The Manbij Military Council, which played a pivotal role in these defensive operations, highlighted the importance of maintaining vigilance as Turkish-backed forces persist in their efforts to destabilise the region. “The attacks aim to disrupt peace and stability, but we stand firm,” the Council stated in their release.
