Simultaneous police raids were conducted this morning in the Artuklu and Kızıltepe districts of Mardin. Several people were detained during the raids, and members of the Kalkan family, including a pregnant woman, were assaulted, according to Mezopotamya News Agency.
Those detained include Serhat Akpınar, Baver Akpınar, Ramazan Kalkan, Çekdar Ermiş, Rubar Kaya, and others whose names have not been released. Some of the detainees were taken to the hospital in handcuffs, while family members were assaulted at the Kalkan family’s home.
Ramazan Kalkan, his father Davut Kalkan, his brother Agit, and Emine Kalkan, who is pregnant, were all reported to have suffered fractures, bruises, and lacerations. Blood stains were also seen on the carpets in the house as a result of the assault. The family members went to the Mardin Education and Research Hospital to obtain assault reports and file a complaint.
Davut Kalkan described the events as follows: “They threw us to the ground and choked me. I do not accept being thrown to the ground in a raid like this. I will not bow my head. I will file the necessary complaint against them for this.”
The police have not yet released the reason for the raids and detentions. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
