Speaking at the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Centre in the French capital, Alexandra Cordebard began her address by emphasising the deep connection between Paris’s 10th district and the Kurdish people. “This district is the home of the Kurds,” she said. “It must remain their home before the eyes of the world.”
Cordebard acknowledged the Kurdish community’s sacrifices, recalling the Second Paris Massacre and earlier assassinations. “Here, we mourn the loss of Emine Kara, Mir Perwer and Abdurrahman Kızıl,” she stated, highlighting the sadness, anger, and determination shared by all those gathered.
The mayor expressed admiration for the Kurdish people’s pivotal role in defending freedom and democracy, particularly in Syria. “The Kurds of Syria have stood as a barrier, defending the liberty of the world,” she declared. Cordebard reiterated calls for France to fulfil its responsibility to ensure justice, urging the judiciary to act decisively and hold the perpetrators accountable.

Her remarks carried a pointed message: “We must ensure that Kurds are not sacrificed in the pages of history once again. Their contributions to global security deserve recognition and protection.”
Cordebard closed her speech by addressing the broader struggles faced by France and Europe, highlighting the rise of far-right extremism. “In France, over 140 members of our national assembly belong to the far right,” she warned. “We need the values and strength of the Kurdish people now more than ever.”
In a touching conclusion, she reassured the Kurdish community of their place in French society. “Here, you are at home,” she said. “You are not visitors; you build our society with us. For that, we thank you for the values you uphold, your strength, and your integrity.”
