The Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) of Iraq have published a report about the escalation of Turkish military operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) since 15 June. CPT report that at least 184 families from nine villages have been displaced during the last month.
The Turkish military incursion on the KRI with the help of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is continuing, with the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) bombing villages and fields and establishing military bases. The military operations are focusing on the Berwaly area, with the TAF advancing up to 15 km into Iraqi Kurdistan territory.
The report from CPT Iraq, published on 16 July, covers the results of the last month of military attacks (from 15 June to 15 July). So far, nine villages have been completely emptied, with 19 houses being completely or partially destroyed and at least 184 families having to flee.
There were also direct attacks on villagers. The civilian Nêçîrvan Hekîm was injured by Turkish troops on 12 July while herding his sheep.
Because of Turkish bombardments, at least 6,800 hectares of agricultural fields have been burned. Additionally, the operations have damaged electricity infrastructure in two villages and disrupted telecommunication networks in 110 villages.
So far, the Turkish army has established 10 new military bases, bringing the total number of Turkish military bases in the KRI to 74. In addition, temporary road controls have been set up, with Turkish soldiers even checking the passports of local residents.
