Turkish forces have bombarded civilian areas in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), causing large-scale fires in villages, fields and hillsides, as Turkey’s incursion escalates with the mass deployment of troops and Turkish-backed ISIS militias.
Community Peacemaker Teams report that since the the military attacks of the Turkish state began a month ago, nine villages have been emptied and 184 families forced to flee.
On Wednesday night, a fire broke out under intense bombardment close to the Guherzê and Belave villages in the Amedi (Amêdî) district. According to local reports, villagers who attempted to extinguish the fire were obstructed by Turkish soldiers.
Another fire broke out after a Turkish Unmanned Aerial Combat Vehicle (UACV), commonly known as a drone, bombed the Badîna village of the Nalparêz city of Pênciwên district on Wednesday morning. The fire spread over 20 hectares of tree-covered hillsides. Locals worked together to stop the fire.
