Civilian buildings in the village of Goharzi in the Amedi (Amêdî) district of Duhok (Dihok) were shelled by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) on Sunday evening. Two houses were damaged as a result of the attack. Following the shelling, three children were transported to Amedi hospital in shock.
According to Kamaran Osman, a member of the international organisation Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), the shelling came from a nearby military base set up by the TAF. Dozens of such bases have been built by Turkey since 2021 to ensure its own military presence in the area of Iraqi Kurdistan, according to a report by the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) earlier this year.
Since the beginning of the year residents of Goharzi village have been shelled by the TAF at least 12 times. The Turkish military has also continued attacks on the Gare mountains (Çiyayên Gare) as part of its ongoing invasion operations in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, with 16 bombings reported on Sunday, according to the same CPT source.
