While Turkish-backed jihadist forces launched new attacks in northern Syria, the Turkish state’s army occupation continues as it prepares for winter offensives in the Iraqi Kurdistan region (KRI).
Reports indicate that Turkish occupying forces bombarded the Zap and Amedi (Amêdiyê) regions with airstrikes on 4 December. Footage shows heavy bombardment by Turkish army helicopters.
In its ongoing occupation of the KRI, Roj News reports that Turkey has recently deployed over 400 additional military forces, supported by helicopters. These forces entered the Amedi region, although it remains unclear whether they are replacing stationed troops or increasing the overall number of Turkish forces in the area.
News sources informed Roj News that this troop increase has led to more clashes with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) forces, particularly in the Zap region.
Iraqi political analyst Haitham Khaz’ali has stated that the Turkish occupation of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, along with the ongoing bombings, continues with the knowledge and support of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
There have been no reports on financial or human losses from last night’s Turkish army attacks on the Zap region. However, recent Turkish army attacks on civilians in the KRI have resulted in the death of Sabah Abdul Sattar (45) and the injury of two villagers in Qymri (Qumri) village.
According to the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) statistics, Turkish army attacks on the KRI have killed 18 civilians and injured four others since early 2024.
