Turkey has continued its ground and air assaults deep in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with intensified attacks in recent days by Turkish warplanes, according to news sources based in the KRI.
Recent reports confirm that Turkish warplanes have escalated their strikes on the region, while drone attacks increasingly target civilian populations. This deliberate strategy aims to depopulate key areas, particularly around the Gara region, forcing villagers and farmers to flee.
In this regard, Karwan Osman, head of the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), stated that Turkey continues its systematic military campaign in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, escalating both air and ground assaults to secure a strategic advantage for its planned spring offensive.
On 27 January, Turkish military drones deliberately targeted a civilian vehicle in the Rapirin region, resulting in the deaths of four civilians. This incident is part of a broader pattern of indiscriminate strikes aimed at exerting maximum pressure on Kurdish civilians, Osman says.
Over the past six months, Turkish drones have relentlessly targeted numerous civilians in the KRI, including journalists Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn.
