On 29 August, a targeted blast in Amûdê (Amuda), Al-Hasakah province, killed one person and injured another.
Reports indicate that the attack targeted a vehicle on the Amûdê-Qamishli (Qamişlo) road in the Al-Masakin neighbourhood. One of the victims, 35-year-old Hani Khalaf, succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. The other person injured was Tarfa Joli (74), ANHA reported.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has reported that the vehicle was deliberately targeted by a Turkish drone, although this has yet to be confirmed by officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
However, Turkish drone strikes have increased in North and East Syria, particularly in the Al-Hasakah countryside. Since early 2024, the SOHR has reported 95 Turkish drone airstrikes in areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Throughout the year, 31 civilians, including 11 children, have been killed, and over 28 combatants and 16 civilians, including three women and three children, were injured, the SOHR reported.
Turkish air and artillery strikes on North and East Syria have also severely damaged the region’s infrastructure, with an attack on 5 August targeting a water station.
