Şenyaşar family members have stated that they will continue their struggle to secure justice in Turkey: they appealed to the public for solidarity. Their ‘justice vigil’ before the Şanlıurfa (Riha) Courthouse reached its 26th day. The father and two sons of the family were killed as a result of reported assaults by Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy İbrahim Halil Yıldız, his bodyguards and relatives in 2018 after an altercation in the the Şenyaşar family shop.
Ferit Şenyaşar and Emine Şenyaşar launched the ‘justice vigil’ and Mehmet Şenyaşar, who survived from the assaults, also participated. Ferit Şenyaşar, a son in the family, reacted against the decision of the court that sentenced Fadıl Şenyaşar – his brother – to 37 years and nine months in prison and Enver Yıldız to 18 years in prison.
Stating that the Court was placed under political pressure, Ferit Şenyaşar said his brother would be released if a fair and just judicial process was applied.
Emine Şenyaşar also criticised the court’s decision and demanded the release of her son: she appealed to officials to reveal film footage of the incidents in the hospital and shop.
