To our readers, contributors and supporters,
After five years of independent journalism, Medya News will cease publication at the end of June 2025, as we take time to reflect on the changing dynamics of our region and the evolving needs of our audience.
Since our launch in 2020, Medya News has sought to provide in-depth, critical coverage of Kurdish affairs, human rights, democratic movements and regional developments too often overlooked by mainstream platforms. Through daily news, interviews, podcasts and live blogs, we’ve worked to amplify marginalised voices and foster dialogue across borders.
This decision comes not only in response to ongoing structural and operational challenges, but also from a growing recognition: a new political phase is unfolding, and with it comes a renewed responsibility to reimagine how Kurdish journalism can rise to meet the moment. The need for stronger, more collaborative and more comprehensive journalism has never been greater.
We are immensely proud of what we’ve built together. We extend our deepest thanks to our readers for your consistent support and encouragement, without which the project would not have been possible. Huge gratitude also goes to our contributors, the many who have given their time to share interviews, the dedicated columnists, correspondants, editors and translators who stood with us and helped carry this work forward.
The Medya News archive will remain available online until September, enabling access to the stories, voices, and analysis of these pivotal years. We hope it will continue to serve as a resource for those seeking to understand the Kurdish people and the struggle for rights and recognition.
The long tradition of Kurdish journalism will endure, carried forward by new voices rising to meet the moment.
In solidarity,
Medya News Team
