A Turkish military drone targeted Ashmê village, south of Kobani (Kobanê), in northern Syria, on 7 February, causing severe civilian casualties, the majority of whom were children or teenagers. Two-year-old Ceylan Ismaîl Hemo, who was critically wounded in the strike, died despite intensive medical efforts, while eight others were injured.
The injured civilians have been identified as: Ebdullah Îsmaîl Hemo (3), Rodî Mihemed Hebeş (12), Îbrahîm Mihemed Hebeş (13), Muslim Yasir Hebeş (13), Mihemed Yasir Hebeş (15), Îbrahîm Salih Hemo (17), Huda Salih Hemo (20) and Eyşe Cemal Îsmaîl (28). All were transferred to a hospital in Kobani for urgent medical treatment.
Just 48 hours later, another youth, Salah Khalef al-Salama (15), was killed when Turkish forces attacked the village of Sakiro in the countryside east of Ain Issa (Eyn Îsa).
The attacks are part of Turkey’s intensified military campaign in the region following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in late 2024, with strikes extending across the Euphrates Basin, primarily targeting the outskirts of Manbij (Minbîc), the Qara Quzak (Qara Qozaq) bridge, Tishreen (Tişrîn) Dam, and Kobani (Kobanê).
