After meeting with Masoud Barzani, Nechirvan Barzani, and Bafel Talabani, the İmralı Delegation—represented by Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party and Keskin Bayındır, the co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP)—held a meeting with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), on Wednesday 19 February.
Following the meeting, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) released a statement underscoring the urgency of advancing efforts to achieve peace and resolve the Kurdish question, particularly in light of recent developments in Turkey.
In this context, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his full support for reviving the peace process and ending violence. He affirmed the KRG’s commitment to providing the necessary cooperation to achieve these goals.
During the meeting, the İmralı Delegation expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the KRG authorities. They outlined the objectives of their visit, highlighting the imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan’s ongoing efforts to end violence, foster peace, and seek a resolution to the Kurdish question.
The delegation emphasised that Turkey has entered a new phase, making peace and conflict resolution a pressing priority. They stressed that addressing these challenges requires urgent and multilateral cooperation.
The İmralı Delegation arrived in Erbil (Hewlêr) on 15 February to coordinate steps toward a renewed reconciliation process in Turkey.
During their visit, the delegation met with Masoud Barzani on 16 February, Nechirvan Barzani on 17 February and Bafel Talabani on 18 February. Their final meeting with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani took place on 19 February.
After this last meeting, the delegation returned to Turkey, and is expected to visit İmralı prison and discuss the outcomes of their diplomatic mission with Öcalan.
