“Together, our voices are stronger,” Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said on Saturday, marking the 49th anniversary of the party and 48 years after the PUK’s uprising against Iraq. Talabani’s message honoured the sacrifices of countless martyrs and emphasised the continued need for unity and clear collective voices in Kurdistan.
In his address, Talabani paid tribute to the thousands of heroic martyrs, who had made the ultimate sacrifice for a free and proud Kurdistan. “Today, we remember the blood shed by our brave martyrs and all those who fought tirelessly for our nation’s freedom,” he said. Talabani also extended his gratitude to the departed leaders and revolutionary figures whose legacies continue to inspire.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the PUK over the years, Talabani drew attention to the party’s resilience and steadfastness in the face of numerous obstacles. He attributed the party’s endurance to the unwavering support of the Kurdish people. “Our party has faced significant difficulties and sacrifices, but like the unshakeable mountains, we have remained steadfast,” he stated. “Our endurance is due to the unwavering support of our people, who have protected the PUK with their blood and their courage.”
Talabani reiterated the PUK’s commitment to peace, democracy and the protection of diverse voices within Kurdistan. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the region’s cultural and ethnic diversity while working towards deeper unity and peace. “On this significant day, we reaffirm our commitment to political freedom, democratic development and respect for diverse voices,” he said. “Kurdistan needs all of us, and our voices are clearer together.”
Looking forward, Talabani expressed hopes for a new phase of growth and stability in Kurdistan, free from internal conflicts and external threats. He urged all political factions to come together in service of the region’s goals. “We aim to create a new era where the rights of the people are protected, and there are no threats to their lives or well-being,” he added. “Kurdistan needs all of us, and our voices are clearer together.”
