Representatives from the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) engaged in crucial diplomatic discussions with German parliamentarians on Tuesday.
Led by Ilham Ahmed, Head of Foreign Relations for the Autonomous Administration, the delegation includes Mahmoud al-Meslet, Co-Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), and Abdulkerim Omar, European Representative of the Autonomous Administration. Their meetings, spanning several days, centre on pressing issues including political stability, economic challenges and security threats in Syria.
Since 16 June, the delegation has been hosted at the German Parliament building, engaging in talks that underscore the complex dynamics affecting the region. Discussions have encompassed the implications of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Israel-Hamas tensions on Syria, alongside the persistent threat posed by ISIS.
Earlier this week, the delegation met with representatives from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Green Party. On Tuesday, they extended their discussions to include members from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Left Party (Die Linke).
The talks also delved into broader geopolitical challenges impacting the Middle East, with a particular focus on countering ISIS resurgence and addressing humanitarian crises. Ahmed stressed the urgency of international support in mitigating the impacts of Turkish aggression and fostering stability in the region.
