Huge fires are raging between Mardin (Merdin) and Diyarbakir (Amed) in southeastern Turkey. The fires are rapidly spreading to residential areas, with citizens reporting of at least 20 people killed in the fires and many more injured. There are calls for immediate aerial intervention to extinguish the fires.

DEM Party co-chairs Hatimoğulları and Bakırhan call on immediate aerial intervention against the fire: “The fire that broke out in the rural area between Mardin and Diyarbakır has grown so big that it has spread to residential areas due to the wind. There are casualties and injured people. So far, the ground intervention is insufficient. Authorities should intervene more comprehensively and from the air without wasting time. We call on all sensitive institutions to intervene quickly.”
