Hezbollah has confirmed that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on southern Beirut. The airstrike on Friday also killed senior commander Ali Karki and injured 91 people, marking a major blow to Hezbollah’s leadership.
“Hassan Nasrallah is dead,” Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani had announced, with Hezbollah later confirming the death in a statement, calling the attack a “treacherous Zionist strike”. Despite the loss, Hezbollah vowed to continue its resistance.
Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah for over 32 years, was a prominent figure in Middle Eastern politics, seen as a symbol of resistance by supporters and a proxy for Iranian influence by critics. His death comes as more than 720 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict escalated earlier this week.
