Turkey launched at least two airstrikes on the sit-in at the Tishreen (Tişrîn) Dam on the Euphrates River in northern Syria on Saturday, leading to several civilian casualties, according to initial information.
The surroundings of the dam were also bombed by Turkish war planes earlier on Saturday.
The Turkish state has attacked the sit-in at the Tishreen Dam and civilian convoys going to the dam with air strikes seven times between 8 and 16 January. Fifty-five civilians have been injured, including health workers and journalists, and eight killed in the attacks.
The sit-in is now on its 11th day, with people continuing to join the protest despite it being targeted by ongoing Turkish military attacks with drones and warplanes. These attacks have also targeted convoys of people driving towards the dam. On Friday, a convoy from Jazeera (Cizîr) Canton, consisting of residents from Qamishlo (Qamişlo), Tirbespiyê, and Amuda (Amudê), arrived at the Tishreen Dam, marking the fifth convoy heading towards the dam since 8 January.
These attacks come amidst an escalation of Turkish air strikes on the areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). This morning, the city of Sarin (Sirîn) and multiple villages in the southern countryside of Kobani (Kobanê) were also targeted by Turkish warplanes. The complete extent of the damage is still unclear.
A school in the Jadda (Cada) village in Sarin was almost completely destroyed as a result of the airstrikes carried out this morning.
