The Representative Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Europe has launched an urgent appeal for help for Kurdish families who have been forced to flee in the wake of recent attacks by Turkish-backed militias on refugee camps in the Shahba (Şehba) and Tel Rifaat (Tal Rifat) regions of northern Syria.
In its appeal, the AANES called for donations in the form of “material and moral support” to the Kurdish Red Crescent (“Heyva Sor”) to contribute to its campaign to “alleviate the suffering of the displaced and meet their basic needs”.
The AANES has also set up local relief committees in various cities in northeastern Syria to receive refugees and provide them with shelter, clothing, food and moral support “within the limits of their available resources and capacities”.
According to recent reports, 200,000 people have been forced to flee to the areas of the AANES, the majority of them from the Afrin (Efrîn) region, which was invaded and occupied by the Turkish military and allied Islamist militias in 2018. The Kurdish Red Crescent has said that the majority of those displaced are children, who are now “enduring extremely harsh conditions due to the bitter cold and severe lack of shelter”.
Account details for those wishing to donate to the campaign can be found here.
