A recent attack on a fuel tanker travelling on the Shaddadi-Deshisha road in northern Syria resulted in the death of the tanker driver and a member of the Self-Defence Forces, according to a statement released by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Press Centre.
The statement confirmed that Ibrahim Shehab, the driver of the tanker from Aleppo, was killed in the attack, which also damaged the tanker. The clash intensified when the SDF responded to the attack, resulting in the death of one of its members.
The SDF recently carried out an anti-ISIS operation in the al-Hol region of Syria called ‘Operation Lasting Security’, which resulted in the capture of 79 ISIS fighters and the seizure of a significant cache of weapons, bombs and mines.
The SDF highlighted the continued threat posed by ISIS sleeper cells in the region, particularly amid ongoing tensions in northern Syria, and noted the need to maintain military action against these cells to secure the area.
