Young residents from the town of Al-Darbasiyah (Dirbêsiyê) in northern Syria shared their views about the reported threat of attack of their town by Turkish armed forces and/or Turkish affiliated armed groups with Hawar News Agency.
Turkish armed forces and Turkish affiliated armed groups have reportedly been preparing for an aggressive operation against the town since September 2020. Turkey has been reportedly preparing similar operations for the towns of Al-Malikiyah (Dêrik) and Sinjar (Sengal). Young people living in Al-Darbasiya shared their views regarding the threat of this military offensive.
According to Cûd Mirzo, a young female resident of Al-Darbasiya, the Turkish state wishes to replicate the situation of Afrin (Efrîn), Ras al-Ayn (Serêkaniyê) and Tell Abyad (Girê Spî) with her town. “However, Kurdish people have a strong soul of resistance and they will never give up with the struggle. In any case of attack targeting North and East Syria, we are ready to resist with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)”, she said.
Sewend Şêx Salih stated that the threat of attacks targeting the regions where Kurdish people live is a tradition of the Turkish state. “These threats aim to intimidate the people, but our people are not afraid of these empty threats”, he said. “For all the achievements gained in Rojava, the Kurds have sacrificed a lot and they will not surrender to these threats from the Turkish state after all of this”, he stated.
Stêra Ehmed is another young woman living in Al-Darbasiya. She believes that the soul of women’s resistance will defeat the threat: “We will not let Turkey resurrect its former plans for North and East Syria. We will resist till the end”, she stated.
