Young women have launched a series of street actions in Strasbourg demanding the freedom of imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on 4 July 2024. The actions will continue until 7 July and include events such as book stalls, demonstrations and theatre performances.
The actions are part of the ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan – A political solution to the Kurdish question’ campaign, which began in October 2023 and recently continued with ‘Dialogue Days for Öcalan‘, during which the paradigm of Abdullah Öcalan was discussed at over 50 events in 15 countries.
On 4 July, the street action days took off with a march of young women wearing t-shirts with the inscription ‘Rêwîtiya Azadiyê – Journey for Freedom’ through the city of Strasbourg. Stalls offering books by and about Abdullah Öcalan and his ideas were opened in front of the Strasbourg main station and at the Kléber Square.
After the march, a statement condemning the isolation of Öcalan and demanding his immediate release took place:
The actions continued on 5 July with a theatre play criticising the situation of young women in today’s society and showing how the paradigm developed by Öcalan is seen as a solution for these problems.
