The Free Women’s Units (YJA STAR) commander Şerda Mazlum Gabar has spoke in support of the women’s struggle and celebrated 8 March alongside all women who resist oppression.
She started her speech by honouring Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and the mothers of the guerrillas who lost their lives in battle.
“The 21st century will be the century of women and it will be full of resistance and struggle of women”, she said.
“The women’s struggle in Kurdistan serves as an example for women, especially in the Middle East, but also for women around the world”, she added.
The world saw Kurdish women’s power after the revolution in Rojava (North and East Syria) and the Sinjar resistance, said Gabar, who also spoke about Turkey’s latest offensive on Garê and reaffirmed that they were not responsible for the killing of the 13 Turkish prisoners.
“We, as YJA Star and People’s Defence Forces forces, were prepared for such attack”, said Gabar. “It was not a surprise for us and we also know that the war will grow in the future”.
Gabar also remarked on the ongoing attacks against the Kurdsish movement and said that the attacks will not stop them.
“As the People’s Defence Forces, it is time for us to achieve victory. That’s why we said ‘It is time to ensure freedom’. It is time for us to present victory to our Leader our leader and our women”.
