Since the Sinjar Agreement was signed between the Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan governments on 9 October last year, people in Sinjar have been continuously protesting the agreement which they say does not respect their will.
After the Iraqi forces tried to settle in the village of Gir Zerik, located in the south west of Sinjar, Yazidis protested by affirming the importance of their own protection force, the Yazidi Asayish.
The Hawar News Agency interviewed Yazidis in the Cizre region on the latest developments in Sinjar.
Fikriya İbrahim said that if there was an attack against Sinjar it would mean an attack against all Yazidi people. “We want to solve our problems on our own,” said İbrahim. “We do not want anyone to decide on behalf of our people.”
She added that they want to defend their people and their land with their own forces. “People of Sinjar can defend themselves,” she said.
Another Yazidi in Cizre, Faruq Tozo, mentioned the link between Turkey and ISIS. “When there was a massacre against Sinjar we saw that Turkey supported ISIS. The close relation between Turkey and ISIS has become clear since then.”
Ciber Şêx Silêman from the Amude district said the Yazidi people will defend themselves till the end. “We see that this plan was made under the name of ‘law and order’. In other words, they want to implement a new decree against the Yazidis. It should be known that Yazidi society can never be destroyed. Yazidis have great resolve and will protect their lands.”
