Reactions continue against the Sinjar agreement signed between the Iraq government and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on 9 October.
On 25 October, 511 Yazidis made a statement against the agreement. Yazidi journalist Berekat İsa and Dr. Xelil Xaltî made statements on the current situation.
İsa said that KDP made the agreement in favour of its own interests and the KDP did whatever it wanted during its rule in the region in 2003 and 2004. İsa said, “The betrayal that took place in Sinjar worsened the situation. They say ‘YBŞ is to leave Sinjar’. YBŞ members are children of Sinjar, where will they go? We do not want Sinjar to be ruled by the KDP or any other forces”.
Yazidi journalist stated that any other force could decide on behalf of the Yazidi people and added that they do not believe that KDP would protect Yazidis. “Yazidi people should make their own decisions”.
‘9 October is not a coincidence’
İsa said that the dates of Abdullah Öcalan’s expulsion from Syria and the dates of operations against Serêkanîyê and Grê Spî was were not coincidences. “Such a date implies relations between Turkey’s National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) and KDP. Whichever date they chose, Yazidi people are aware of themselves and did not recognise the agreement signed without Yazidis’ will”.
İsa also drew attention to the role of Turkey and said, “Turkey is trying to remove the forces from Sinjar on the grounds of being backed by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). YBŞ forces are Sinjar’s own children, they protected people against massacres.”
“The agreement should respect the YBŞ and martyrs of Sinjar. Turkey’s wants the KDP to turn Yazidi people into enemies of the PKK.”
He added that if that demand is achieved, Sinjar will revert to how it was before 2014.
‘9 October agreement was part of a systematic attack’
Yazidi doctor Xelil Xalti stated that Turkey tried to occupy Sinjar by using the Barzani family. “Turkey considers Yazidis to be a significant danger”. Xalti also said the 9 October agreement was part of a systematic attack. “This issue is quite important. For that reason, all Kurdish people must care about Sinjar. 9 October is a symbolic date. It is a part of a psychological war”.
Regarding the aim of the KDP, Xalti said the KDP tried to strengthen its rule in Sinjar. “They try to choke the liberation struggle. They try to implement Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s system in Iraqi Kurdistan which they consider successive”.
Xalti commented on Turkey’s plans in the region and said Turkey aimed to establish a new system in Federal Kurdistan for the design of a new Middle East. “They set patrols in Iraqi Kurdistan. Who will be located there? Turkey aims to maintain its presence. Turks think, ‘If Sinjar is free, Rojava (North and East Syria) is free, I can not prevent the Kurdish people in Turkey.
Xalti also said that Barzani aimed to preserve its tribe and said Barzani thought that his tribe’s ruling would be in danger if Yazidi people awaken. So Barzani, according to Xalti, supported his historical enemy (Turks) to preserve his power.
Xalti underlined the importance of Öcalan’s ideas and stated that the solution in the region came from those ideas. Lastly, Xalti added that Kurdish parties should ensure their alliance to prevent occupations.
