The “Conflicts, problems and solutions among Kurds” workshop organised by the Rojava Strategic Research Centre (NRLS) started today (20 February) in Qamishli (Qamishlo) with the participation of many Kurdish politicians, intellectuals, human rights activists, and lawyers.
NRLS member Rakan Şêxî made the opening speech of the workshop and pointed out that some hegemonic states are trying to create conflict among Kurds. “What we aim to achieve by organising this workshop is to find ways to stop such threats”, said Şêxî.
Syrian Democratic Forces General Commander Mazloum Abdi also joined the workshop via video conference. “Recently there have been many positive responses to the SDF’s call for Kurdish unity”, he said. “I believe political disputes between the Kurdish parties will be resolved very soon”. He added that there are no ideological and political reasons for not ensuring Kurdish unity in Rojava.
Abdi also said that in order to ensure unity, both sides must make sacrifices. “The SDF will continue to take responsibility with the support of the United States until we achieve our goals”, he said.
The workshop has three sections. A report about the conflicts among Kurds will be presented in the first section. The second section includes the current political situation in the region where Kurds live, the problems that Kurdish people face, threats against Kurdish people, and the change in the demographic structure since the beginning of the Syrian crisis.
And in the final section, the participants will discuss the possible solutions regarding these problems.
