Fatime Demir was visiting her son Emrullah Demir in the Diyarbakır(Amed) D-type Closed Prison on 28 April when she said, “Çawanî Başî” (“How are you?”) to a prisoner named Cüneyt Aslan, reports the Mesopotamia Agency.
She was subsequently banned from visiting her son for the next six months. Following a report from the prison guards, the Prison Disciplinary Board gave Demir a six-month visitation ban because she committed “the crime of violating the security and functioning of the prison”.
Emrullah Demir, who called his family on 16 May, said that his mother had been banned.
Fatime thinks that this is unacceptable and shows the attitude of the state towards Kurds. Emrullah’s father, Bahattin, said, “We could not visit our son for a long time due to the pandemic, and now we will not be able to see him yet again.” He continued: “However, the situation in prisons never changes, people have to take action against it.”
