Electricity in the village of Sulu (Bafê) in the Güçlükonak (İdil) district of Şırnak (Şirnex) has been cut off by the Dicle Electricity Distribution Corporation (DEDAŞ) due to the accumulated debt of an electricity bill. Deprived of a water supply, villagers said, “We could not afford the bill even if we sold the village”.
Villagers in Sulu have been deprived of a water supply as well as electricity in the midst of winter due to a bill dated 2004. Villagers were using electricity through a water pump to gain water.
Hatice Karçin, Emine Şaman and Hasan Uğur spoke about the situation they faced and said they could not afford to cover the debt.
Hatice Karçin said the spring was coming and they would not be able to plant their gardens, adding they could not afford that debt, even if they sold the village.
