The United States has sanctioned Turkey after it acquired the Russian-made S-400 air defence system, violating US law.
The sanctions, announced by the US Treasury, targeted Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries and its senior officials, including its president.
Sanctions include banning all US export licenses to Turkey’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), as well as freezing the assets and banning US visas for its president, İsmail Demir, and other senior officials.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the decision with a retaliatory message. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the sanctions and said they were “illegal”.
