Nine civilians, including a child, were killed and numerous others injured in Turkish drone attacks on northern Syria on Tuesday, with one strike targeting a busy outdoor market and another a family home, according to local reports.
Turkish airstrikes on 28 January killed six civilians and injured others in Sarrin (Sirîn), a town south of Kobani (Kobanê), in northern Syria. Local sources report that the afternoon attack targeted a crowded outdoor market, causing significant civilian casualties.
In a separate incident overnight, a suspected Turkish drone strike hit a house in the village of Um Hermel in Jazira (Cizîrê) Canton, northeast Syria. The strike killed two men and a child from the same family and injured nine others, according to local health authorities. The injured were initially treated at Al-Hasakah (Hesekê) hospital, but several were transferred to Qamishli (Qamişlo) due to critical injuries.
This escalation of Turkish military attacks in northeast Syria has raised concerns about the growing civilian toll, with many questioning the legality of the Turkish strikes under international law. No immediate statement has been issued by Turkey regarding the incidents.
