A member of the Turkish Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) informed on Twitter that representatives of the media regulator have called directors of Turkish media outlets to warn them not to broadcast the latest video clip that depicted an affair between two men.
The song ‘Karakol’ (‘Police Station’ in English) and the video clip were released on the night of 30 June by singer and song writer Mabel Matiz. The video clip of Karakol, a love song, consists of images of two lovers, played by Matiz and a young man.
İlhan Taşçı, the watchdog member of RTÜK, said on Saturday:
“RTÜK called every music channel to lightly threaten them about ‘not broadcasting’ Mabel Matiz’s latest song. They do not directly say that they ‘banned’ the song, so that they will be able to make maneuvers in case. They are against everything, every view that is different.”
Matiz also posted a message on Twitter on Saturday. He addressed his audience saying: ‘I’m crying, but out of joy.”
He continued:
“We have many more stories to tell. Everything associated with humans and life have been covered in my lyrics and my music till now, and they will continue to be covered from now on.”
‘Karakol’ has been viewed on Youtube over 2,700,000 times in just three days after its release.
