Turkish armed forces have been reportedly targeting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) zones in the Metina, Zap and Avashin regions in Iraqi Kurdistan since April 23.
ANF reported that in the zones of Derare and Koordine located in Metina there have been “intense clashes”.
According to ANF, Turkey hit a village named Seraro with air strikes in addition to a number of zones in Metina where Turkish fighter jets bombed several times.
At a video conference meeting on Monday with top military officials of the Turkish Armed Forces Command, Turkish minister of national defense Hulusi Akar shared the updated information regarding the clashes in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Stating that the military campaign in Metina and Avashin-Basyan regions continued “successfully as planned despite the difficult terrain conditions”, Akar said a total of 113 Kurdish fighters lost their lives and 107 shelters, which was allegedly used by the Kurdish fighters, were destroyed.
Rojnews on Monday carried claims of “chemical weapons” usage and reported that Turkey “has used phosphorus on Hill Zendura” based on local sources. Rojnews shared a footage recorded by the villagers that shows the fall of a bomb reportedly on Hill Zendura, which was seen causing an initial fire and a cloud of dust.
People’s Defence Forces (HPG) also issued a statement on Sunday, announcing that Turkish armed forces have been bombing several villages in Metina region and there has been intense helicopter activity in the skies of Avashin and Zap, ANF reported.
