A Kurdish prisoner, Şervan Can Güder (20), has died a suspicious death in Van (Wan) F Type Prison in the southeastern province of Van, Turkey.
The family was informed of his death at 11.00 am today (23 March) by the prison administration. His body had been taken to the Yüzüncü Yıl Forensic Medicine Institute in Van before either the family or the lawyers were informed, MA reported.
The Forensic Medicine Institute recorded the cause of death as a heart attack, but the family said that Güder had had no chronic diseases and was not on medication.
The family travelled to Van from Yüksekova district in Hakkari (Colemerg), collected the body from the Forensic Medicine Institute and brought it to Yüksekova. The family and lawyers contested the cause of death, and the body of the 20-year-old was taken to Yüksekova State Hospital for preliminary autopsy.
Güder, who was tried as a “youth driven to crime”, had been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
