“Turkey has intensified its attacks on our region, committing massacres against our people and systematically targeting our infrastructure,” said Zozan Mahmoud Khalil, Co-Chair of the Water Authority of the Euphrates Canton, after Turkish warplanes struck the Sheikh Al-Fawqani station on Sunday night. “These deliberate acts are aimed at deepening the humanitarian crisis and forcing the local population into submission.”
The attack left the station completely inoperable, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian conditions in northern Syria. The Water Authority condemned Turkey’s airstrikes, calling them a “systematic war” on the region’s civilians and infrastructure.
Khalil urged international institutions to hold Turkey accountable, describing the bombing as a “war crime”. Local authorities warn that without immediate intervention, the lack of clean water will have devastating consequences for the region.
Turkey has escalated its airstrikes on northern Syria in recent weeks, targeting infrastructure in areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). Officials say these strikes aim to displace the population by destroying essential services.
