In Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakır (Amed), and southern provinces of Adana and Mersin, 90 people have been detained on charges of ‘making propaganda for a terrorist organisation’, allegedly through their social media posts, Jin News reports.
In police raids on 104 addresses in Diyarbakır on 13 August, 58 people, including Jin News reporter Beritan Canözer and journalist Kadir Bayram, were taken into custody.
The lawyers were initially not given any access to their clients or even details or reasons for detention.
And then, after 24 hours they were eventually permitted to meet with their clients in the Diyarbakır Police Department.
33 people have been detained on the same day in house raids in Adana and Mersin.
Cemile Kavak, one of the detainees in Adana, was released later due to illnesses.
