Donald Trump has achieved a return to the White House, becoming the 47th US president after securing a decisive win in Wisconsin. This electoral milestone pushed him past the necessary 270 electoral votes, solidifying his comeback after what have been for him four tumultuous years marked by controversy and legal battles, though with an unwavering support base.
Addressing jubilant supporters at the Palm Beach Convention Center in Florida, Trump vowed to lead with a renewed mission. “We will not rest until we have delivered the strong and prosperous America that every citizen deserves,” he proclaimed, promising sweeping reforms aimed at fortifying US borders and revitalising the economy. Trump, who has weathered criminal convictions, an insurrection scandal, and even two assassination attempts, celebrated the victory as a testament to the resilience of his movement.
Trump’s path to the presidency marks a remarkable return for the former leader, who refused to concede in 2020 and has since maintained a commanding influence over the Republican Party. His win in Wisconsin closed off avenues for Vice-President Kamala Harris, who earlier lost several swing states critical to her campaign’s path to victory.
As the vote count concludes, several US states are continuing their elections, with outcomes expected to shape the landscape on key issues such as healthcare, education and reproductive rights. Nevada and South Dakota, among others, have featured prominently in ballot measures reflecting the country’s deep divides on issues including abortion access, which have rallied significant voter interest.
