Several women organisations are getting ready for March 8, International Women’s Day. Non-governmental organisations, and women associations and unions in Turkey came together and held a press statement for International Women’s Day.
One of the women organisations, Dicle Amed Women’s Platform (DAKP) started their 8 March International Women’s Day activities and made a statement that “Women will suppress the fear”. Their statements were prevented by the police.
One of the activities organised within the scope of March 8 events was sending cards to women prisoners. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şanlıurfa (Riha) Women’s Assembly and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) members started the 8 March activities and gathered in front of the provincial organisation’s building.
Lawyer Ayşe Sürücü emphasised that this year, March 8 will be bigger than previous years and transformed into a struggle. Members of TJA and HDP Women’s Association, also came together in Van (Wan) and Tunceli (Dersim).
