The suspicious death of 17-years-old Gamze Açar

The family of Gamze Açar, who died suspiciously in a hotel in Kızılcahamam, Ankara, where she went for a job interview, applied to the ‘We Will Stop Femicide Platform’ (KCDP).

Açar’s cousin Ahmet Yılmaz said, “This is murder, not suicide.”

Gamze Açar (17) suspiciously died by falling from the 5th floor of a thermal hotel in Kızılcahamam in Ankara where she went for a job interview on November 1. Açar died in Ankara City Hospital. Açar’s body was taken by her family after the autopsy at the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institute.

According to Mesopotamia Agency (MA), five suspects including three individuals who took Gamze Açar to the hotel were detained within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Kızılcahamam Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Two of them were released after their depositions and others who took Açar to the hotel were arrested. The suspects claimed that Açar committed suicide, the results of the autopsy and evidence obtained from the room will guide the investigation process.

‘Not suicide, murder” says Açar’s cousin

Açar’s cousin, Ahmet Yılmaz said that Açar died after struggling for a day: “This is murder, not suicide. Three suspects were arrested, two of them were released. We do not know what will happen to those two people, we are just waiting now. The police investigation continues. There is nothing we can do right now, we are waiting until new information emerges”.

“Taken to the hotel for a job interview”

Her cousin Yılmaz said that Açar was taken to the hotel for a job interview: “We do not know what happened in the hotel. The incident happened at 08.45 in the morning. Açar entered the hotel at 02.00 after midnight. We do not know what happened from 02.00am. until 08.45am. Then the ambulance took her to the hospital”.

“We will follow this process until the end,” said Yılmaz and continued:

“Only yesterday, a woman was stabbed nine times by her husband in Karşıyaka and she died. We get these murder news every day, so don’t let other women like Gamze and Şule be killed. There are more than 30 femicides this month”.

Açar’s family applied to the We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KCDP). Stating that they will follow the process until the end. The platform said from their social media account that “She was 17 years old, she lost her life by falling suspiciously from the 5th floor of the thermal hotel where she went for a job interview. Gamze’s suspicious death should be fully investigated. Justice should be provided for Gamze Açar “.
