The 6th Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that a tender will be opened in Burdur on 4 June 2021 to hunt 45 endangered mountain goats. In the announcement, published on İlan.gov.tr, it was stated that a total of 45 mountain goats will be hunted in 13 batches in the Alanya, Gazipaşa, İbradı, Akseki, Döşemealtı, Kaş, Finike and Sütçüler districts of Isparta.
After the tender was heard by the public, many non-governmental organisations reacted, and a petition titled “Hunting should be banned completely” was launched on the change.org website.
In recent months the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry again opened a tender for the hunting of mountain goats, especially in the Dersim and Bingöl provinces of Turkey, but many were cancelled due to public reactions. Villagers held a vigil for weeks in the mountains to stop hunters from coming to their region.
