While Turkey’s assaults on North East Syria continue, Raqqa (Reqa) Syrian Democratic Solidarity Party chair Yahya Mahmud commented on recent events.
Mahmud said Turkey is trying to remove the security of the region and forcibly displace people from their land with its attacks. Remarking on Turkey’s dream of constituting a new Ottoman state, Mahmud noted, “The Syria crisis has once again revealed Turkey’s ultimate goal. Turkey aims to include Syria’s territories in its lands as it did in İskenderun [Hatay]”.
‘International public opinion is silent’
According to the Hawar News Agency, Mahmud took issue with the international silence over Turkey’s actions. “The newly elected United States administration also has not reacted yet”, he said. “The US has always tolerated Turkey’s crimes. Russian representatives have visited Syria allegedly to solve the crisis. However, Russia is in league with the Turkish state. Russia allowed Turkey to occupy Afrin [Efrîn] in exchange for the handing over of Guta. Our party does not accept the occupation of even one centimetre of Syria’s lands. We condemn assaults carried out in the name of occupation. We will continue our efforts to end the Syrian crisis and remove the mercenaries from these lands”.
‘We should unite’
Mahmud said Turkey’s aim was to plunder Syria. “After Turkey occupied Syrian land, everyone saw what happened. They stole agricultural products, historical artefacts and health equipment. Turkey’s sole aim is to occupy these lands. We, the people of North East Syria, should be aware of those assaults, and we should unite against these conspiracies”.
Lastly, Mahmud called on the international community and the guarantor states to halt Turkey’s crimes in the region.
