Official spokesman of the Sharabeen tribe Muhammad Aref al-Hamdoun spoke to Hawar News about the ongoing clashes in northeastern Syria and the political position of the local tribes regarding the conflict.
The Sochi deal was signed between Russia, Turkey and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in October 2019 to ensure security in northeastern Syria. The attacks of Turkey and Turkish-backed mercenaries reportedly continue, especially in Ain Issa (Eyn Îsa), the Zarkan, and Tal Tamr districts in Al-Hasakah (Hesekê) Canton. Although the Syrian Democratic Forces are acting according to the Sochi deal, Turkey continues its military assault in northeastern Syria, Hawar News reports.
‘International coalition justifies the invasion of the Turkish state’
Describing Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as the “spiritual father” of ISIS, al-Hamdoun said, “Our history is full of struggles against invaders, and we will beat them again”. He added that by targeting the Ain Issa “Erdoğan wants to realise his projects in the region, he wants to occupy it. He gave weapons to mercenaries and sent them to our land. Now they are attacking our villages and homes.
“Erdoğan wants to invade our lands and Turkify the region under the name of the Syrian National Army. Turkish-backed mercenaries are killing our children.”
Russia, who is supposed to be the guarantor of peace according to the Sochi Agreement, justifies the invasion of the region by remaining silent on the ongoing assault, according to al-Hamdoun. “The international coalition, Russia and pro-Russian forces, they all justify the Turkish state’s invasion of the region. All of them are partners of Turkey. The USA also does nothing to find a solution. We believe there is a secret deal among all of them. These all prove that their aims are the sames as Turkey’s”.
‘All tribes in the region are ready to save their occupied lands’
“We reject this occupation”, said al-Hamdoun. “We have a cultural, social, and historical bond between us based on the struggle against the Ottoman and French occupations in the past. We will do it again”.
Al-Hamdoun shared his tribe’s support for the SDF: “The SDF is the legitimate representative of all Syrian people. It fought against ISIS, we have to unite with the SDF”.
He also urged the Arab League and the Egyptian government to take serious steps against Turkey’s attacks. “This is our land, we do not accept this occupation. We are stronger than them and all the tribes in the region are ready to save their occupied lands”.
