Seventeen people were detained after house raids were conducted in the early hours of this morning in the city of Şırnak (Şirnex) in Turkey. Another operation was also carried out this morning in Diyarbakır (Amed).
According to Jin News, several houses were raided within the scope of an investigation that had been launched by Şırnak’s (Şirnex’s) Chief Prosecutor’s Office. Former Cizre Municipality Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Berivan Kutlu, who had been replaced by a trustee, was one of the people who was detained after being assaulted and being handcuffed.
Police reportedly broke the doors and windows as they detained Kutlu after having assaulted and hancuffed her behind her back. It is still unclear why the detentions and house raids took place. The detainees were made to wait in the police department.
The names of the detainees are as follows: Former HDP Cizre Co-Chair Berivan Kutlu, HDP İdil district Co-Chair Nafiye Geçgel, dismissed Provincial Assembly members Elfesya Nas and Asuman Külter, Şırnak HDP Provincial executive Sekvan Kılınç, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) member Ekrem Şavluk, Yakup Barkın and Cemil Gün, HDP Silopi ditrict Co-Chair Kadir Kunur, former Silopi district Co-Chair Aycan Azmaz, DTK representative Aydın Deniz, former Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Province Co-Chair Ayşe Atay, Şırnak provincial executive Dursun Çakır, former DTK member Ali Güven, former DBP Balveren region Co-Chair Leyla Erdem and HDP members Meryem Aşkara and Resul Uysal.
Raids in Diyarbakır
Another detention operation was undertaken in Diyarbakır (Amed) this morning. Police raided houses and detained Lice Municipality Assembly member Emine Kaya, Resul Kaya and HDP Bağlar district executive Suna Güneş. The detainees were taken to Diyarbakır’s Police Department.
Detention operation in İstanbul
These detention operations follow the one that was conducted earlier in İstanbul. According to Mesopotamia Agency, the operation in İstanbul took place on 26 November, when eighteen people were detained. The testimonies of those detainees reportedly were being taken today. Şişli Municipality Deputy Chair Cihan Yavuz and journalist Kesire Önel were among the detainees.
