After the avalanche on the Iranian border, a search has begun for the five missing kolbars (border traders) in the region.
Nine kolbars were under the avalanche initially, but four of them were able to escape, according to a report by the Mesopotamia News Agency.
The avalanche occurred on 18 January in the Elbak district of Van (Wan) on the Turkey-Iran border.
The five kolbars — Molai Xudai, Pirat Xudai, Bilen Ehmedi, Yaver Eslani, and Metin Eslani — have been missing for six days. The search started on 23 January.
AFAD (The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) and the gendarmerie helped with the search.
However, due to the heavy snowfall, the search teams could only advance 200 metres.
The search for the kolbars stops frequently in the harsh weather conditions but helicopters continue to scan the region.
