Turkey has been engaged in an operation against the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in the Qandil Mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan since 23 April. As clashes continue between Turkish armed forces and Kurdish fighters, demonstrations have been held in different parts of Europe as well as in Northern Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan to protest against Turkey’s offensive.
Various political parties and people have also criticized the KDP for remaining silent regarding Turkey’s operations. Speaking at the Congress of the Veteran Peshmerge Association in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, PUK Co-Chair Lahor Şêx Cengî stated that the peshmerga is an organised and national force and emphasized that they should not be engaged in a civil war between Kurds.
