Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities risk plunging the Middle East into open conflict and placing millions of civilians in danger, Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party warned on Thursday.
In a joint written statement, DEM Party Foreign Affairs Co-Spokespersons Ebru Günay and Berdan Öztürk condemned Israel’s recent military actions as “reckless” and “destabilising”, warning that the strikes—particularly those targeting active nuclear sites—could lead to a large-scale environmental disaster affecting Iran and its neighbours.
“By targeting nuclear facilities, the Netanyahu government is endangering not only Iranian civilians but also the people of surrounding countries,” they said. “This is an irresponsible attempt to provoke new conflict zones in an already volatile region.”
The statement comes amid growing tension between Israel and Iran, and as the United States continues nuclear negotiations with Tehran. The DEM Party argued that Israeli strikes undermine diplomatic efforts and show a continued disregard for international law, similar to Israel’s stance during the ongoing war in Gaza.
“The same refusal to recognise international legal norms that we have seen in Gaza is now being repeated in Iran,” the co-spokespersons wrote.
Calling for a halt to hostilities, the DEM Party urged both the US and Israeli governments to resume negotiations with Iran. It also appealed to the United Nations and other international institutions to take an active stance in favour of peaceful, negotiated solutions.
“The region needs dialogue, not disaster,” the statement concluded. “We call on all parties to prioritise peace and collective security over short-term military gains.”
