Police violence in Batman, Turkey

Police violently detained a child in the Belde neighbourhood of Batman (Elîh) in eastern Turkey, according to filmed footage.

Patrolling police in Batman tried to detain the boy, who looks to be around 15 or 16 years of age, for allegedly violating the Covid-19 curfew. Witnesses taped the incident, and according to the footage police used violence to detain the boy, twisting his arm and taking him to the ground, before treading on his back.

During the incident some witnesses tried to intervene but the police threatened them.

No information has so far been obtained on the fate of the child, whose name is unknown.
