Police closed a street in Van (Wan), Turkey, where Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) members were protesting the ongoing bans on gatherings and events in the city.
HDP Van deputies Murat Sarısaç and Muazzez Orhan protested outside the governor’s office against police who closed the street and blocked pedestrian access.
Rejected by government officials, Sarısaç and Orhan were encircled by police, who also removed journalists watching the incident.
“There have been bans in this city for five years and the will of people has been seized”, said Sarısaç, adding, “Van has collapsed in economic, social and cultural terms. We will never bend to their unlawfulness”.
