The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Council organised a meeting on 27 March to discuss the attacks on women’s rights in Turkey and the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.
HDP co-chair Pervin Buldan spoke before the meeting and stated that the party will not let parliament turn into an institution ruled by men. She underlined that the attacks against the HDP are actually attacks on women’s rights. “Their goal is to push the HDP out of politics, to stop women from being active in politics. Their goal is to close the HDP and eliminate equal representation of women in politics, to leave women weak and unorganised. We will never let them close the HDP, we will defend the HDP forever.”
