Several North East Syrian politicians have voiced their criticisms of the policies and practices of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Iraqi Kurdistan. In particular, the KDP has been criticized for deploying its military forces to the North East Syria-Iraqi Kurdistan border and to places where Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) forces are located. They appealed to the KDP to act in favour of Kurdish national interests.
The KDP supports Turkey
According to ANHA, the Democratic Union Party’s (PYD’s) Kobani Canton Executive Council member Arif Hebeş stated that the main objective of the enemies of the Kurdish people was to perpetrate a Kurdish genocide. Hebeş added: “Consequently, the KDP also carries out its self-genocide” – sometimes referred to as an ‘autogenocidal policy – “by supporting Turkey. The ones who are collaborating with the enemy should know that the enemy will not discriminate in favour of anyone in case of a genocide. The KDP supports the Turkish state’s genocidal policy with the policy it is adopting”.
‘KDP should serve the Kurdish people’
The PYD’s Kobani Canton Executive Council member Nesra Derwîş also stated that the KDP protects the Turkish state’s and not the Kurdish peoples’ interests. He added: “Regardless of the KDP’s policies, it is affiliated to Iraqi Kurdistan lands and national values. The Turkish state has sought to perpetrate a genocide of Kurdish people throughout its history. Being aware of that, the KDP should serve Kurdish people and abandon its current policies”.
Temo: ‘The Turkish state does not want Kurdish people to be free’
Ciwan Temo, a Syrian Kurdish Left Party Youth Committee member, made the observation that: “Kurdish people have witnessed wars due to provocations triggered by the Turkish state and those have, in fact, caused tremendous losses. The Turkish state does not want Kurdish people to be free. The KDP is also preventing Kurdish national unity by serving Turkey’s aim and works for its own interests”.
The PYD’s Kobani Canton Council member Ferîde Hesen also called for national unity against attacks on the Kurdish people and conspiracies.
